For example, a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled study involving 30 healthy adults investigated 250mg NMN daily for 12 weeks.
Researchers reported significantly increased whole-blood NAD+ concentrations in the NMN group.

Another trial involving 80 generally healthy middle-aged adults investigated 300mg, 600mg and 900mg NMN daily for 60 days.

These studies provide evidence that orally consumed NMN can influence its intended biochemical pathway.
However, increasing a biological marker such as NAD+ is not automatically evidence that every proposed health effect associated with NMN has been demonstrated.
Why is NMN associated with ageing research?
NAD+ metabolism has attracted substantial attention from researchers studying the biology of ageing.
This has subsequently created interest in NAD+ precursors including NMN.
Much of the initial excitement surrounding NMN came from laboratory and animal studies.

Is NMN an anti-ageing supplement?
NMN is frequently described online as an “anti-ageing supplement”.
That description can oversimplify the science.
NMN is being investigated partly because of the relationship between NAD+ metabolism and ageing biology.
However, current human evidence does not establish NMN as a treatment that reverses ageing or extends human lifespan.
It is more accurate to describe NMN as an active area of ageing and NAD+ research.
Is NMN safe?
Human clinical trials conducted so far have generally reported favourable short-term tolerability.
However, most trials have been relatively small and short.
Long-term evidence covering continuous supplementation for many years is therefore much more limited.
